A Month of Thanksgiving ~ Day Eighteen

This post is part of a giveaway hosted by my friend Tamara at Branch of Wisdom .
Please visit her lovely blog to learn more!

Yesterday I expressed thanks for the blogosphere; today I express thanks for that which is good about the internet! We all know the evils that have come with the free sharing of absolutely anything and everything...but I am so grateful that I can learn about important things to bless my family, and today it's what I've learned about Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs) and how corporate agriculture in America is pushing these dangerous things into our food system -- and what we can do about it.

I have long learned the connection between the pain and ills of my body and the chemical composition of modern "food" products (processed food). Even so, having learned to cook in modern times with "convenience foods" it is difficult to change all of that. But, to be honest, my body doesn't feel good. And I know that it is not the state of things that God desires! For me, when I need to make a BIG change in my life, I have to read and input information in vast quantity to get my mind wrapped around the WHY of the change. Then, the HOW becomes easier. I've been working on the WHY for some time now (almost a year), focusing on learning about corporate agriculture (my oldest son is heading into a career in farming), the corporate structure of our nation's food supply, and the serious threat of GMO's in food. Yesterday, I recieved a link to a video that is turning my attention, now, to the HOW of the changes I'm planning. I invite you to watch it with me, and give thanks to God for His marvelous creation of food to sustain us as you learn what is going on in this world!

"Then God said, "Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the surface of all the earth, and every tree which has fruit yielding seed; it shall be food for you..." (Gen. 1:29)

"And give us seed, that we may live and not die, and that the land may not be desolate." (Gen. 47:19)

Oh Lori, we have had to make so many changes due to the way food is grown and produced here in this country.

Since we made all these changes, I only purchase organic and I mean local organic. Farmers that I know do not use hormones on their cows, or feed anything unnatural to their chickens or pigs or sheep.

Vegetables are purchased locally or most of the time I grow them in our little yard.

It is not easy, I'll tell you right now. Be aware that these changes are going to take time and expense. But when you do decide and begin, you will see the difference in the way you feel and the food just tastes better!

Thank you for the link...yes, the internet is a tool to be used correctly!

Hi Lori,
Yes, the internet is a great tool. I wish we could buy all organic, but .... we just have to trust in the Lord at this point in our lives.
Have a wonderful afternoon,
(((hugs))

Lori, thanks for posting all the links; I will do some research soon. Though, I already know half of what you're talking about!

It reminded me, too, that I need cornstarch--the one that I get has a "non-GMO" label. :)

Love,
Christine
